National Preparedness Level 2

Southern California Area

Preparedness Level: (PL 2)

Northern California Area

Preparedness Level (PL 1) SYNOP: Weak cyclonic flow aloft over the Great Basin will continue to produce cooler than average temperatures along with breezy conditions in a few places. Early this morning, northwest winds of 20-30 mph are blowing across the Kern County Mountains, northern Los Angeles County and adjacent areas of the Antelope Valley.  Some gusts to 40 mph will be possible in these areas by afternoon as well as in the Banning Pass. Temperatures today will remain in the 70s in the valleys to the lower 90s in the desert. A handful of showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the Sierras, mainly north of Yosemite N.P.  Friday into the weekend, expect a slow warming trend with temperatures climbing back into the mid 80s in the valleys.  Night through morning low clouds will be a bit more prevalent which will allow for a tight temperature gradient between the stratus-covered coast and sunny inland areas.  Isolated convection will still be possible in the Sierra High Country.  Next week, another low pressure area will move into the state.  This will result in a return of unseasonably cool weather, widespread stratus in the coast and interior valleys and breezy conditions in the desert.  There may be a slightly better chance of convection in the Sierras as well as much of the high desert next Monday and Tuesday.  One or two showers may develop in the San Bernardino N.F. next Tuesday as well.  The second half of next week into the Memorial Day holiday looks much warmer and drier at this point.  However, no offshore winds are expected through the period. NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)

Low pressure will move across southcentral Nevada today with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms possible in the Sierra and across central Nevada. Expect lighter winds in most areas

today with the exception of San Bernardino County where gusty winds will continue through tonight. Overall, temperatures will be seasonal through the weekend with unsettled weather conditions

continuing over the higher terrain of the Sierra and central Nevada.

SPECIAL NOTES: NONE AT THIS TIME

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:

Large fire potential will continue to be low through most of the period. The greatest likelihood of a large fire today will be in the desert adjacent areas where breezy weather will be possible throughout the day.  This weekend, large fire potential will likely shift to interior sections of the central coast as well as urban interface areas of Southern California where sea breezes to 15 mph will be possible each afternoon.  IA will continue to be light throughout the next 7 days.
