SYNOP:
The ridge of high pressure that has been centered over the Desert Southwest the past few days will shift to the east bringing a few degrees of cooling today. Maximum temperatures will be in the mid 70s to mid 80s across the mountains and upper 80s and 90s in the valleys. Minimum humidity will be mainly in the teens away from the coastal areas, but widespread single digit humidity will continue over the deserts. There will be southwest to west afternoon and evening winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph across the desert passes today. An area of low pressure will form over the Pacific Northwest Friday and then move slowly south through this weekend bringing much cooler temperatures and a significant increase in humidity to the region. By this weekend, temperatures in the San Juaquin Valley will drop into the 80s while other valley locations drop into the 70s. The marine layer will become deep and morning low clouds and fog will make it onto the lower coastal mountain slopes by Saturday. Southwest to west afternoon and evening winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph will surface across the desert passes Friday through this weekend. The low pressure area will weaken and move into the Great Basin bringing a slow warming and drying trend to the region Monday through the middle of next week. Southwest to west afternoon and evening winds will decrease to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph across the desert passes Monday through the middle of next week. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the Sierra Sunday through the middle of next week.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Increasing southwest winds will result in a period of critical fire weather for much of Southern Nevada and Northwest Arizona. Widespread winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph are expected along with relative humidity values in the single digits. Increasing dewpoints will result in substancial humidity recoveries for Northwest Arizona Friday, though conditions will remain dry and
gusty across most of Southern Nevada. Dry and gusty conditions may return Sunday and last into early next week.

SPECIAL NOTES: NONE AT THIS TIME

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
The potential for large fire will become elevated across the interior valleys and foothills today as the sea breeze increases in strength along with continued very warm and dry conditions. The large fire threat will decrease Friday through early next week as temperatures become well below normal and humidity becomes fairly high. The best chance of a large fire will shift to the desert interface areas where strong westerly winds will combine with humidity in the teens starting Friday. Grasses have completely cured over the lower elevations and other dead fuels have dried out significantly over the past couple of weeks due to the very warm and dry conditions. A deep marine layer will cause a temporary increase in dead fuel moisture across the lower elevations starting Friday. Expect possibly moderate initial attack activity today and then light IA activity Friday through the middle of next week.
