SYNOP:
Low relative humidity levels will continue in the mountains and deserts. Winds will be breezy during the afternoons and evenings on the desert mountains slopes, through passes, and into the
deserts. These dry winds will increase the fire spread potential close to critical levels for a few hours each afternoon and evening in these areas, with the windiest conditions forecast to
occur on Tuesday. Temperatures will only see minor day to day fluctuations.

There will be very little change in the weather through next weekend as a weak Pacific trough remains over the West Coast.

• There will be S-W afternoon and evening winds of 15-25 mph with gusts to 40 mph across the desert passes through next weekend.
• Temperatures will be near normal through next weekend, with mid 60s to upper 70s across the mountains and mid 80s to mid 90s in the valleys.
• Minimum humidity will be 12%-25% away from the coastal areas today and then be in the single digits and teens Monday through next weekend.
• There will be poor humidity recovery at night away from the coast and valleys.
• No shower or thunderstorm activity is expected across the region through the forecast period.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Dry and breezy conditions expected again today although wind speeds will be a bit lighter than those observed Saturday. Meanwhile, improved moisture recovery is expected across Northwest Arizona today and Monday as a modest moisture push clips the area. Conditions for the week ahead will remain dry with occasional gusty southwest winds.

SPECIAL NOTES:

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
• The potential for large fire will be low across the region through next weekend due to light winds away from the deserts and cool nights.
• Both the live and dead fuels will stay extremely dry away from the coastal areas through next weekend.
• Light initial attack activity will continue across the region through next weekend.

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
2014: The remains of former Hurricane Odile surged northward through the Gulf of California, resulting in hot and humid conditions all the way to the coast and easterly flow through the mountains. The easterly flow collided with the sea breeze in the late morning and afternoon, producing rare severe thunderstorms from San Diego to the Inland Empire. Downburst winds downed or damaged hundreds of trees and caused power outages and structural damage in El Cajon, Spring Valley, Clairemont and Kearny Mesa. Ten aircraft were heavily damaged at Montgomery field by winds in excess of 50 mph. 30 buildings were damaged in the city of San Diego. A funnel cloud was observed just north of Big Bear Lake.

1969: A heavy thunderstorm hit Barstow and flash floods flowed through the streets. Water washed into 40 homes. Thunderstorms around San Bernardino dropped numerous lightning strikes, which caused power failures. Power poles were set on fire. Several forest fires were also set, but quickly contained.

1929: A tropical air mass enveloped Southern California. The Meteorologist in Charge at San Diego reported temperatures of 111° in the coastal valleys. A reading of 94° was reported at San Diego at 4 am on 9/17.
1909: It was 100° in San Diego, the hottest day since 9/22/1883 (26 years). It occurred at 9 am.

TROPICAL EAST PACIFIC REPORT:
For the eastern North Pacific…east of 140 degrees west longitude:

A large area of disturbed weather centered several hundred miles southwest of Mexico is associated with a trough of low pressure. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of
this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the middle of next week while it moves generally northwestward at about 10 mph. Interests in Baja California Sur should monitor the
progress of this disturbance.

* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…30 percent.

* Formation chance through 5 days…high…80 percent.
