Preparedness Level (PL 3) SYNOP:

***Very warm and dry today***

***Strong offshore winds and very dry Monday***

***Very dry Tuesday***

A ridge of high pressure off the California Coast will continue to bring very warm and dry conditions to the region today. Maximum temperatures will warm a couple of degrees, with mid 70s to mid 80s across the mountains and upper 80s and 90s in the valleys. Minimum humidity will remain in the single digits and teens. Temperatures will cool to the 60s to low 70s across the mountains and mid 70s to mid 80s in the valleys Sunday as a trough drops into the Great Basin from the Pacific Northwest. Minimum humidity will increase to above 20% across most of the region Sunday. This trough will also bring westerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph to the wind prone mountain and desert areas Sunday. Strong surface high pressure will set up over Southern Idaho bringing northeast winds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph to the mountains and below the canyons and passes of Southern California Monday. Temperatures will cool another 5 to 10 degrees across the mountains and deserts on Monday, but temperatures will warm a couple of degrees across the coastal and valley areas. A weak ridge aloft will move over California bringing a few degrees warming to the entire region Tuesday. Minimum humidity will drop back into the single digits and teens Monday and Tuesday. A cooling trend and an increase in humidity will take place Wednesday through the end of next week as a weak Pacific trough sits over the West Coast. There will be westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph across the wind prone mountain and desert areas Wednesday through the end of next week.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)

Warm and dry conditions are expected through the  weekend. Light winds today will be followed by increasing winds  Sunday afternoon as a cold front approaches. Breezy southwest winds  will develop ahead of the front in Mohave County with stronger north  winds pushing into Esmeralda, Lincoln and central Nye Counties late  Sunday. The strong north winds will spread south across the area  Sunday night and continue Monday. Much cooler temperatures can be  expected behind the front on Monday.

SPECIAL NOTES:

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:

Very warm and dry conditions will keep an elevated threat for large fire across much of the area away from the deserts and San Joaquin Valley today. Even though winds will be light today, rapid rates of spread will be possible in the afternoon if a new ignition were to occur where the fuels and topography are favorably aligned. The large fire threat will decrease significantly Sunday due to cool and humid conditions away from the deserts. There will be a high risk for large fire across much of Southern California away from the deserts on Monday due to widespread strong and gusty offshore winds. Rapid rates of spread and long range spotting will be likely on any ignition in a windy area. The potential for large fire will decrease Tuesday as winds become light, but very dry conditions will keep the large fire threat elevated. Cool and humid conditions will cause the potential for large fire to become low Wednesday through the end of next week. Expect moderate initial attack activity through Tuesday and then light IA activity Wednesday through the end of next week. Heavy initial attack activity is possible across Southern California on Monday.

1997: Very intense thunderstorms hit the Inland Empire. In Hemet, 1.65 inches of rain fell in just 75 minutes, and 0.31 inch fell in just three minutes. Floods and debris flows resulted, causing $2.5 million in damage. Large trees, mud, and boulders were swept down canyons. Homes and apartments were flooded in north San Bernardino and Highland. Up to two inches of rain fell in one hour on Holcomb Hill near Running Springs, the rapid runoff loosened debris associated with a recent burn scar and sent a six-foot wall of mud and debris flowing downhill. The flow damaged 29 buildings, 14 cars and forced a helicopter rescue of four teenagers. Big Bear Lake recorded 0.5 inch of snowfall, the earliest measurable snowfall on record.

1977: Hurricane Heather recurved with the remnants tracking across northern Baja California into Arizona. There was rainfall up to two inches in the southern mountains and deserts on 10/6 and on this day. This occurred during the El Niño of 1977-78.=========================================================================TROPICAL EAST PACIFIC REPORT:
