Preparedness Level (PL 3) SYNOP:

***Gusty offshore winds across Southern California starting Sunday***

***Much warmer and drier beginning Sunday***

Well below normal temperatures along with humid conditions will continue today as a deep area of low pressure spins over the Great Basin. Maximum temperatures will be in the mid 50s to mid 60s across the mountains and upper 60s and 70s in the valleys. Minimum humidity will be above 20%, except there will be widespread teens across the deserts. A ridge of high pressure over the Pacific will approach the West Coast bringing a warming trend along with minimum humidity in the teens Sunday through the end of next week. Most coastal and valley locations will warm by around 10 degrees, while most mountain and desert locations warm by around 5 degrees on Sunday. Offshore winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph will surface across the mountains and below the canyons and passes of Southern California, mainly in the mornings, Sunday through the end of next week

Strong low pressure will bring unseasonably cool  temperatures this weekend and the first part of next week. There  will be chances for rain and high elevation snow over the Sierra and  southern Great Basin today, then mainly over Lincoln County Saturday  with dry weather likely area wide from Sunday through much of next  week.

SPECIAL NOTES: N/A

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:

Cool and humid conditions away from the deserts will keep the potential for large fire low today. The large fire threat will increase across the region Sunday through the end of next week due to warm, dry conditions. Offshore winds along with the warm and dry conditions will cause an elevated threat for large fire across Southern California next week. Fuels will dry out rapidly and extreme fire behavior will be likely if a new ignition were to get started in a windy area. Light initial attack activity will continue today and then expect moderate IA activity Sunday through the end of next week.
