SYNOP:
High pressure aloft near the West Coast will move slowly inland through Thursday with near average high temperatures. For Friday night into Saturday, a low pressure system is expected to weaken and move inland through Southern California spreading precipitation inland, but with the more significant precipitation remaining off the coast. Another low pressure system is expected to move towards the coast on Saturday night, but it may stall off the coast for Sunday into Monday before moving inland on Monday night and Tuesday. Additional precipitation is possible at times for Sunday into Tuesday, but with low confidence in the details.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
A dry weather pattern and a warming trend is in store for much of region the rest of the week although a system lifting across northern California will brush the southern Sierra with some light snow Wednesday. Stronger storms look to return to the region over the weekend and early next week with increasing chances of rain and mountain snow.

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
2012: Offshore winds began on 1/7 and ended on this day. Gusts reached 82 mph at Fremont Canyon, 74 mph in Crestline, 66 mph at Santiago Peak, and 60 mph at Ontario. Trees and power lines went down. Big rigs were overturned.

2007: Offshore winds started on 1/5 and continued peaking each morning until this day. Winds gusted to 84 mph at Fremont Canyon, 64 mph at Rancho Cucamonga, 63 mph at El Cariso, 62 mph at Rialto and 55 mph at Ontario. Downed power poles, tree limbs resulted. Trees fell on to homes and cars in Lake Arrowhead.

2005: Five consecutive days of heavy rainfall started on 1/7 and ended on 1/11. The wet weather was blamed on an atmospheric phenomenon known as the “Pineapple Connection” or “Atmospheric River”. 31.75 inches fell in Lake Arrowhead, 29.70 inches at Lytle Creek, 19.86 inches in Devore, and 15.09 inches at Palomar Mountain. Four to ten inches fell at lower elevations. Flash flooding and mudslides caused millions of dollars of damage to homes, businesses, vehicles, parks, crops, roads and bridges. A state of emergency was declared in Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties. Widespread catastrophic floods impacted nearly every community. This followed heavy storms in late December and earlier in January.

1998: Heavy rain that started on this day and ended on 1/10 brought two inches of rainfall, causing floods and mud slides in Del Dios (near Escondido).

1993: A very wet series of storms that began on 1/6 and ended on 1/19 produced 20 to 50 inches of precipitation in the mountains and up to 12 inches at lower elevations over a two week period. It was one of the longest periods of consecutive days of rain on record (14) and measurable rain fell nearly every day from 1/2 to 1/19. On this day extensive runoff from 24 hours of heavy rain caused havoc from the coast to the deserts. A bridge over the San Gorgonio River was destroyed near Banning and a dike failure near Whitewater flooded several area roads with mud and debris. Rising waters around the city of Desert Hot Springs cut off roadways leaving the city isolated. In the Inland Empire, the Santa Ana River spilled its banks, inundated parts of Norco and the Corona Municipal Airport
