SYNOP:
Gusty west winds will decrease over the mountains and deserts this morning, and turn weakly offshore through the afternoon over northern parts of the service area. Weak offshore will then prevail through Tuesday with lowering humidity and a slight warm-up to seasonal temperatures. Another storm system may bring more wetting rain Wednesday through Thursday.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Dry conditions for the start of the work week begin to subside mid-day Tuesday as moisture begins to move into the Sierra. These rain chances will gradually push eastward going into Wednesday, fully covering our CWA by Wednesday evening. Precip chances will decrease west-to-east before fully pushing out Friday evening. High temperatures will remain 4-7 degrees below-normal until Friday when they approach early December averages. Breezy conditions will continue today with the highest wind gusts expected around 25 mph from the northeast for higher elevations. These winds will die down after sunset and remain light through the work week.

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
• No fire activity is expected through the period.

• The storm system next Wednesday may lead to the possibility of mud and debris flows in and near the Woolsey burn scar.

• Dead fuel moisture will be much higher over the next few weeks while seasonal grasses will begin to show some growth.

SANTA ANA WILDFIRE THREAT INDEX: TODAY: GREY-NO RATING

NO RATING: Sundowner winds are either not expected, or will not contribute to
significant fire activity.

MARGINAL: Upon ignition, fires may grow rapidly.

MODERATE: Upon ignition, fires will grow rapidly and will be difficult to control.

HIGH: Upon ignition, fires will grow very rapidly, will burn intensely, and will be very difficult to control

EXTREME: Upon ignition, fires will have extreme growth, will burn very intensely, and will be uncontrollable.

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
1986: Extremely high tides on 12/1 and on this day arrived at area beaches. High tides were 7.7 feet at San Diego. Minor flooding occurred at La Jolla Shores’ parking lot and there were a few beach closures. On 12/1 minor flooding (four inches of sea water) occurred along Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach from rising tides and prompted lane closures.

1966: Heavy rain drenched the region, even the mountains, from this day to 12/7. Storm totals for the period: 27.79 inches in Lake Arrowhead (believed to be a 100 year rainfall), 23.73 inches in Palomar Mountain, 18.72 inches in Big Bear Lake, 17.85 inches in Idyllwild, 9.14 inches in San Bernardino, 7.63 inches in Redlands, 6.21 inches in Santa Ana, 5.19 inches in Riverside, 2.99 inches in San Diego, 2.73” in Palm Springs, but only 0.66” in Victorville and 0.28” in Barstow! At least two homes were destroyed by floods and debris flows in Mill Creek Canyon. Debris flows and floods damaged homes and roads in Wrightwood and Lytle Creek. Homes and businesses were flooded in Redlands and Palm Springs. Many roads across the region were flooded and washed out. Scuba divers could not recover a Montclair man believed drowned in floodwaters. Strong storm winds caused power outages.

1968: The “Sacramento”, a 250 foot fishing barge and former ferry between San Francisco and Oakland (built in 1877) succumb to a winter storm off Redondo Beach. Today the remains of the “Sacramento” can still be found two miles off Redondo Beach, where they form an artificial reef.

1961: A heavy rain fell in Fontana, San Bernardino, and Rialto. Floodwaters rushed down Lytle Creek Wash and into some homes in San Bernardino and Fontana. Many streets closed because of flooding.

1944: A heavy hail storm hit east San Diego and Linda Vista.

1854: San Diego saw its wettest day on record when 3.34 inches of rain fell. This is one of only two times San Diego has reported three inches of rain or more on a single day since 1850.
