SYNOP:
A low pressure system near the West Coast will maintain moist onshore flow with periods of showers through Tuesday night. Dry with a slow warming trend for Wednesday through Friday. Another low pressure system from the northwest could bring more showers for late Friday night into Saturday night and possibly into Sunday.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Active weather pattern continues into the work week as multiple rounds of mountain snow and valley rain showers remain in the forecast through Wednesday night. Snow levels will be dropping through midweek, and significant snow accumulations are possible again in the higher terrain of Southern Nevada and the Sierra. Temperatures will start out near normal, and fall several degrees below normal Tuesday through next weekend.

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
2011: Strong offshore winds near Riverside were estimated at 65 mph. A tree fell down on part of a building.

1990: Heavy snow fell in the mountains. Green Valley Lake received 13 inches and Wrightwood and Arrowbear received 12 inches.

1988: A dying subtropical storm system dropped four inches of rain in the mountains of San Diego County. More than four inches fell in Imperial Beach in 24 hours and 3.71 inches in 8 hrs. 1.5 inches fell in Chula Vista, 1.25 inches fell in San Diego and less than an inch fell in other parts of San Diego County. Standing water was five feet deep in some intersections. Some homes were flooded with three to six feet of water. $0.5 million in damage occurred. 50 homes in Imperial Beach were flooded. 30 families were displaced by flooded homes. Power outages and road closures also resulted.

1987: Five to six foot waves hit the coast. Large surf inundated Seacoast Dr. in Imperial Beach. A man and his son were swept off Sunset Cliffs and died.

1985: Up to two inches of snow fell in Palm Springs. A tornado observed in Tierrasanta, Allied Gardens and Mission Gorge in San Diego damaged eight mobile homes tearing roofs off. Funnel clouds were observed at Brown Field.

1979: 56 inches of snow fell in Big Bear Lake from 1/31 to this day, the greatest storm snowfall on record.

1953: It was 79° in Idyllwild, the highest temperature on record for February.

1939: Palomar Mountain recorded 18 inches of snow, a record snowfall for any day in February. This was matched on 2/26/2011.

1873: A snowstorm that started on 1/30 and ended on 2/3 piled up 44 inches at Grass Valley – Lake Arrowhead. On this day 30 inches of snow fell.
