SYNOP: (NWS SAN DIEGO)
Dry weather with periods of weak to locally moderate strength offshore flow will prevail into Sunday with lower inland humidity and with periods of gusty northeast winds along and near the coastal slopes of the mountains and below passes and canyons. Weak onshore flow will develop near the coast early next week. There will be a warming trend through Sunday with cooling beginning to spread inland on Monday. A chance for precipitation will return around the middle of next week.
High pressure will continue to bring warmer and drier conditions through the weekend into early next week. Light offshore flow will occur during the night and morning hours through Sunday morning, but wind speeds will be much weaker than yesterday. By Sunday, look for temperatures to be 5-10 degrees above normal over most locations. A trough will bring cooler weather and scattered showers beginning next Tuesday night.
· Local northeast winds of 15-25 mph over Southern California through Sunday. The strongest winds will occur over Ventura and Los Angeles County.

· Warming trend through early next week. By Sunday and Monday, highs will be in the 50s in the mountains to the 70s in the San Joaquin Valley to the 80s across interior coastal valley and lower elevations of Southern CA.

· Temperatures will decrease Wednesday through Friday with highs back in the 40s in the mountains to the upper 60s in the valleys.

· Light, scattered precipitation will be possible next Tuesday night through the end of the week. Rainfall amounts will generally be 0.75-1.00” in the Sierras with other areas likely seeing under a half inch.

A warming trend is underway and will continue into early next week, sending temperatures several degrees above normal by Tuesday. The next chance of precipitation will be in the middle to later part of next week

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
2015: Strong high pressure and Santa Ana conditions boosted temperatures into the 90s across the coast and valleys from 3/13 through 3/16, and cooling only into the 60s at night. Numerous daily high maximum and daily high minimum records were set. On 3/13 the warmest reading of 96° in Santa Ana was reached. Highest minimum temperatures were 68° in Santa Ana and San Diego on this day.

2008: A funnel cloud was observed southwest of Balboa Park.

2003: A slow moving cold front dropped three to seven inches of rain across Southern California. Over 1,000 traffic accidents and six deaths were attributed to standing water on roads. Some freeways were covered by water two to three feet deep. In the desert, the Mojave River overflowed its banks, flooding several major roads between Hesperia and Apple Valley. Dense fog along the coastal slopes contributed to two pileups in the Cajon Pass involving a total of 56 cars.

1987: Widespread strong storm winds pushed gusts to 40 mph at San Diego with sustained winds 25-35 mph all day. Power outages occurred all over the San Diego metro area. Motor homes toppled in the desert. A light standard fell over onto cars in Coronado. Boats flipped over in harbors. A 22 foot boat turned over at the Mission Beach jetty. Catalina cruise ships were delayed, stranding 1,200 tourists there.

1986: Heavy rain and snow that started on this day and ended on 3/16 caused mud slides along the coast in Orange County. Three feet of snow fell in the San Bernardino Mountains.

1905: 0.94 inch fell in San Diego in 30 minutes, the greatest 30 minute rainfall on record.
