SYNOP: (NWS SAN DIEGO)
High pressure aloft over the southwest states will bring more warming today with high temperatures in the lower deserts of around 100. A trough of low pressure will move inland through California tonight and Tuesday bringing significant cooling along with stronger and gusty west winds for the mountains and deserts. A low pressure system from the north on Thursday night and Friday will bring more cooling for Friday with gusty west to northwest winds in the mountains and deserts. There are also small chances for precipitation for late Thursday night and Friday, Saturday will be dry and a little warmer with another low pressure system from the north bringing more cooling.

Gusty north winds of 25-40 mph in Santa Barbara County/I-5 Corridor this morning, and again tonight through Tuesday morning.
· Strong northwest winds of 30-50 mph with gusts to 60 mph Tuesday across the Sierras eastward into most of the desert.
· Temperatures in the 60s in the mountains to the lower 90s in the valleys today. Much cooler the rest of the week with temperatures dropping to near normal by Wednesday.
· Scattered light showers over the Sierras and Mono County Tuesday (under 0.25” precipitation). Additional light rain possible Friday with amounts under a half inch.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Temperatures will peak about 10 to 15 degrees above normal today then a fast moving cold front will bring strong winds and much cooler temperatures to most of the region Tuesday and Wednesday. Another low pressure system is forecast to drop over the region Friday keeping temperatures below normal. A warming trend will occur for the weekend with breezy conditions Sunday.

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
Today may mark the period when seasonal grasses display widespread curing on the south aspects and other open areas. Expect curing of grasses to accelerate over the next two days and be available for ignition toward the end of the month

2013: A wind storm brought reported gusts to 87 mph in Johnson Valley and measured gusts of 83 mph in Borrego Springs and 80 mph in Sky Valley. Numerous trees, power poles and big rigs were knocked down in the Coachella Valley and the Palm Springs Airport lost power for a time. Blowing roof shingles and sand caused property damage in Borrego Springs. Other property damage was reported at the Anza Borrego Desert State Park headquarters and in Ocotillo Wells.

1989: A major heat wave lasted from late March to mid-April. Many monthly record high temperatures were set for April during the wave, including 112° at Palm Springs on 4/7 (the earliest date in the season to record 110° or higher), 111° at Borrego Springs on this day (the earliest date in the season to record 110° or higher), 106° at LA on 4/6, 104° at Riverside on 4/6, 103° at Escondido on 4/7, 101° at Tustin, 98° at San Diego on 4/6, and 76° at Big Bear Lake on 4/7 and on this day.

1975: The Padres’ home game against the San Francisco Giants was rained out at (then) San Diego Stadium. This also occurred the next day on 4/9. The Angels’ home game at Anaheim Stadium against the Kansas City Royals was also rained out (though not the next day). This was the first regular season rainout in nearly ten years for the Angels, since September 19, 1965, back at Dodger Stadium.

1965: A cold late-season storm that started on 4/7 and ended on 4/11 brought heavy rainfall and snowfall to the region. Over the period 7.66 inches of precipitation fell in Lake Arrowhead (with nearly 50 inches of new snow). 5.44 inches fell in Palomar Mountain (with 13 inches of snow), 4.36 inches in Big Bear Lake, 4.25 inches at Cuyamaca, and 3.14 inches in Idyllwild (with 24 inches of snow). 1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell across the coastal basin. Mountain roads were closed. On this day a tornado hit Costa Mesa.
