SOUTH OPS WX:
A Pacific storm off the Northern California Coast will move inland this afternoon and into Nevada Tuesday. A weak trough will remain over the West Coast behind this storm Wednesday through the end of this week. A ridge of high pressure will build into California from the southwest this weekend.
· Scattered showers will move across the region through Tuesday afternoon.
· Isolated afternoon thunderstorms will occur across Central California through Tuesday.
· The snow level will be between 6,000 and 7,000 feet across the Sierra.
· Most locations will receive less than a quarter inch of additional rainfall, but the Sierra will receive an additional half inch to inch of rainfall through Tuesday afternoon.
· Southwest to west winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph will surface across the mountain ridges and desert passes through Tuesday evening.
· Temperatures will be around 10 degrees below normal through Tuesday, with upper 40s and 50s across the mountains and mid 60s to mid 70s in the valleys.
· Northerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph will surface across Santa Barbara County and the Grapevine Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
· Warming will occur Wednesday and Thursday and then there will be little change in temperature Friday.
· Temperatures will be near normal Thursday and Friday.
· Minimum humidity will drop to between 15% and 30% Thursday and Friday.
· Temperatures will warm to 5 to 10 degrees above normal and humidity will remain low this weekend.

SYNOP: (NWS SAN DIEGO)
Through Tuesday, a low pressure system moving inland through the western states will bring cooling, stronger and gusty southwest to west winds in the mountains and deserts, and a chance of showers along and west of the mountains. Dry with a warming trend for Wednesday and Thursday with Thursday high temperatures a few
degrees above average. A low pressure system moving into the Pacific Northwest will bring stronger onshore flow to southern California and spread cooling inland on Friday and Saturday with high temperatures a few degrees below average.

NWS LAS VEGAS SYNOP– (NORTH & EAST OF COUNTY)
Another windy day will be store this afternoon coinciding with Min RH values falling into the 10-30% range across the Great Basin. Timing of Min RH values will be between 1 and 4 PM this afternoon while eye level wind speeds at that time look to be gusting to over 40 mph, especially across Nye and Lincoln counties (Zones 462/461). Winds will reach critical RFW thresholds with high confidence but it looks like Min RH values will be at or slightly above critical values this afternoon. Hopefully that will be enough to temper fire starts, but it may not do much to prevent fire spread, should they occur. With short term fuels critical across the region and overall fuels approaching critical per the GBGACC, left the current RFW unchanged through this evening.

DAILY FUELS/FIRE POTENTIAL:
Showery and cool conditions away from the deserts will cause there to be little or no fire activity through Tuesday. Light initial attack activity will resume across the lower elevations Thursday through this weekend as temperatures warm and humidity becomes low. There will be a large increase in the dead fuel moisture through Tuesday due to the showery conditions and then it will decrease Wednesday through this weekend as humidity lowers.

THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY:
1997: A thunderstorm moving slowly from west to east produced two tornadoes and a wet microburst in northern Apple Valley. The first tornado moved through mostly open country along a 3.5 mile path. The second tornado formed as the first dissipated, and continued moving east through Apple Valley. The first tornado flattened a few outbuildings. The second blew down several power poles, small structures were destroyed, and the roof was ripped off of a garage. Damage was sporadic as this twister was rather narrow and did not make contact with the ground consistently. Both twisters received an F1 rating.

1892: A springtime heat wave hit Southern California starting on 5/17 and ending on 5/19. Temperatures met or exceeded 95° in LA each day.
